Essential Face Oils

I was so thrilled when the use of oils became a widely acceptable skincare solution.  I have been a fan of using essential oils on the skin since I went to school for aesthetics.  At the time it wasn’t a popular notion in the U.S.  Most people didn’t like the use of oils on their skin, especially people with oily skin.  But, oil cuts oil, so it’s more psychological than comedogenic.

Now there are so many to choose from it’s hard to know where to start.  There is a whole world of oils spinning out from every skincare line.  When it comes to oils you really get what you pay for.  The higher price tag indicates a more purified product.  It’s one product I don’t mind spending a pretty penny on because the ingredients are pure.  Josie Maran Argan OilOne that I had been seeing  a lot of was Josie Maran’s 100% Argan Oil.  I started off with the smaller size to see if I liked it first.  I used it at night as my night treatment without moisturizer afterwards.  It went on the skin nicely, absorbs well and didn’t have any offensive odor.  You can use it everywhere, hair, nails and body.  I never found it to be heavy even when I would add it to my morning routine with my moisturizer.  It didn’t strike me as a must have oil, but I think it’s a great way to introduce an oil into your routine and see how you like it.

This also opened the way for cleansing oils.  These too have been counted among one of my favorite types of cleansers especially if you have oily skin.  They can remove the make-up from your skin without stripping it with what they may use to make a cleanser lather or foamy.  It’s a great option if your skin is sensitive, dry or you wear heavy make-up.  There will definitely be more products to try and review in upcoming posts since there are so many amazing oils out there.  If you’re looking for a starter, I would recommend this Josie Maran one.  It gives you a deluxe sample size of the oil and the cleanser along with an added moisturizer.
Right after putting this post together I saw this video and thought I would share.  He is an amazing make-up artist and his videos are so informative.  This video proposes an added benefit of using an oil that I had never thought of before.  My advice would be to go with jojoba oil because it is very similar to the sebum (oil) our own skin produces.
