Why I Double-Cleanse

Okay, I know what you’re thinking, “who has time to wash their face twice when doing it once seems like a chore?” Just hear me out.  Whatever cleanse method you use, the purpose is to cleanse your face thoroughly.

The double-cleanse is a Japanese beauty method that has been used for some time and is gaining some popularity over on our side of the world.  A few years ago the Clarisonic was introduced in order to give our skin routine a deeper cleanse.  It has inspired many spin-offs since because people liked the feeling of clean skin and knowing that not only did they remove their make-up, but it allowed their products to work at a deeper level and become more effective.  You may have noticed that make-up is meant to last. There are some really fantastic make-up lines out there and better and more advanced products are being created every month.  We use primers and long-lasting foundations all of which have an spf in it.  Between that and the bacteria, dirt and grime in our environment a double-cleanse gets rid of all of that.

First Cleanse

Josie Maran Argan Oil CleanserThe first cleanse is something that will take off the majority of your make-up and is gentle enough to be used over your eyes as well.  An oil, fluid, or gentle cleanser is what you need to look for.  I highly recommend Fresh Soy Face Cleanser.  It’s so gentle and has a jelly-like consistency to it and you can clean right over your eyes with it.  Another choice if you like to use oils is Jose Maran Argan Cleansing Oil or Nude Skincare Perfecting Cleansing Oil for Face and Eyes which starts out as a gel consistency and then melts on your skin to an oil.

Second Cleanse

You want your second cleanse to be something that treats your skin, whether it’s blemishes, fine lines, pigmentation, or just a good exfoliation.  The one I’m using now, I talked about here which I am still very much loving, it makes the skin baby soft.  It’s formulated as an exfoliating scrub that treats the skin, which is why once applied you leave it on for just a few minutes for it to do its job.  It contains that secret ingredient I love so much glycolic acid.   I will do a post on AHA’s and why they are so necessary to the skin, especially if you want to treat fine lines and wrinkles.  Do you have the patience to double-cleanse?
