October & November”Try Outs”

DSC_0037Whenever I watch youtube videos of my favorite bloggers and they do a monthly favorites video they always start off by saying “I can’t believe (whatever month it is) is already over.”  They’re right! However, they have a luxury that I do not, which is they get to spend all of their time blogging while I still have a 9-5.  I had to combine October and November since the time flew and here is what I tried and tested during those two months:

September “Try Outs”

I haven’t written too many posts in between my August and September “Try Outs”, which is directly related to my 9-5 taking its toll.  But, onto the fun stuff!

In last month’s “try outs” I introduced this monthly post since I’m always trying out new products and what their quality and impact might be and decided whether it’s something I’d repurchase or buy full size.  Some of these were from my sample lot that I talked about here, so without further ado…

Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel

iconSkin Type: All Skin Types

If you’ve read any of my previous posts you’ll know by now that Peter Thomas Roth is my desert island product line (whatever that means).  And of course, this cleanser is no exception.  I loved it.  Worth every penny for the amount you get AND it actually is effective.  Up until this cleanser I always pushed aside cleansers that claimed to do anything more than cleanse your skin, but this cleanser proved that even being on your skin for a short amount of time, the active ingredients do work.  In this case, those ingredients are Glycolic (AHA) and Salicylic Acid (BHA). The glycolic and salicylic acid hyper-exfoliate your skin which is great, but I would suggest that you balance this cleanser with another gentle cleanser, otherwise you might get too much flakiness if you’re not exfoliating on a daily basis.

GlamGlow Youthcleanse Daily Exfoliating Cleanser

Skin Type: Combination/Oily

iconWhen these cleansers were first introduced I saw them as a marketing ploy rather than a good product.  I had used the mask and thought very highly of it, but I thought the cleansers were simply a way to expand the line.  I was partially right.  The cleansers are almost like the masks in a thinner consistency formula.  For me, this works very well because I have oily acne-prone skin.  If you’re on the oily side, you could use this cleanser day and night.  I haven’t tried the hydrating mask or cleanser which a dry/combination skin might prefer.  I would definitely purchase the full size of this.  It proved to be just as effective as the masks.

Caudalíe Vinoperfect Cell Renewal Night Cream

Skin Type: All Skin Types

I did not like this product.  The consistency of the cream was thick, but not in a luxurious creamy way, it felt more like it sat on your skin.  After a few uses I broke out and decided this was not a match for me.  I have tried other products from them with great success, such as their masks, but this was not a winner for me.  However, it seems to be reviewed really well so it could be a bad match for my skin.  If you have oily acne-prone skin like myself I’d skip this one for the consistency alone.

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil

iconSkin Type: All Skin Types

Yes, this oil smells not the best, and yes it is an odd blue color, but it’s absolutely amazing so I am more than willing to look over those two things.  There have been plenty of high praise reviews for this product so I’ll spare the regurgitation and just say that I have already purchased this FULL SIZE since running out only two nights ago, so that’s something.  One thing I will say about this product that is worth noting is that it contains retinol, but it’s formulated in such a way to be very gentle on the skin so you don’t get the red-patchy-flaky skin that one might get when using a retinol product.

Please leave comments below on what you’ve been trying out lately and if you tried any of these products with the same or different results.  I love hearing what other people use and what works for them and doesn’t.
