My oily/acne-prone skin just loves a good clay mask. Here’s a tip:
In the summer months when the skin gets extra oily, you can use your favorite clay mask as a cleanser.
GLAMGLOW capitalized on this by creating a spin off of their favorite masks and created these cleansers. I have had them on my wish list for a while now, but until then, I’ve been using a new release from Caudalíe, the Instant Detox Mask.
It reminds me a lot of the pink clay mask by Clarins called the Pure & Radiant Mask, but with more of the pore-clearing strength of the GLAMGLOW Supermud Clearing Treatment. Which means you can see as the mask is drying where the oil is being pulled out from the pore. It has that polka-dot look once the mask on your skin has dried.

Welcome to a new monthly feature post! “Try Outs” showcases products that I’m currently sampling. I’m always trying lots of new products, as I showed in my last sample post. Whatever their impact might be, good or bad, I keep a little mental review in my mind if it’s something I want to come back to and purchase full sized.

Who doesn’t love a good bunch of samples? I have become a sample hoarder. I have enough that I can actually box them up into three different categories:
- moisturizers/eye creams
From the various monthly beauty boxes I was subscribed to, to my many Sephora orders and purchasing some on Poshmark and eBay I have crafted quite a collection. Here are some of my tricks to getting samples (good sized ones too).

It all started with Birchbox. It was affordable, which was the number one influence in trying it out. Every month when it would arrive I would get so excited to get it opened and see what was inside. I was very rarely disappointed. That’s when I thought, what’s even better than this? Having more boxes come, more often.

Anything that’s held up over decades is always going to produce results. It sounds obvious, but most times we become desensitized to certain ingredients after seeing them on everything from hand sanitizer to facial wipes. Some of the most common:
- witch hazel

I am not usually inclined to buying skincare products found at your local CVS or Target, but that doesn’t mean there are not brands out there that are worth making exceptions for. I decided to dip my toes in the RoC pond. I have seen many magazine articles lauding one product of theirs in particular, the RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream.

What are they? What do they do? Why do I need them? All great questions with easy answers. AHA’s or Alpha Hydroxy Acids are natural acids that are derived from food and plants. They sound like something a chemist created in a lab, but some are actually found in things we can eat. Here are a few:
- Citric (found in citrus fruits)
- Glycolic (found in sugar cane)
- Lactic (found in sour milk)
- Malic (found in apples)
- Tartaric (found in grapes)

THIS is the affordable skincare line you should be using. Forget the Aveeno, Oil of Olay, Neutrogena and other over the counter skincare lines, go right to Mario Badescu Skin Care. I will gladly spend hundreds of dollars on one skincare product, that’s just me, but most either don’t want to or can’t. Everyone has their passion du jour, mine just happens to be skincare. I enjoy it the same way a person who is passionate about food enjoys a michelin star restaurant.

We’ve all done it. We bought a product and didn’t like it (smelled funny, made me breakout) then we add it to the growing pile of unused products that expire somewhere in a drawer or a basket in a closet. Here’s a better idea.

A while back I did a post on a skincare tool you should put down, now this is one you should pick up. I know if you’re anything like me having a magnifying mirror with lights is as much horrifying as it is pure pleasure. The closer I can see what’s happening on my skin the better. I have been searching for the right one for a while, but I wasn’t willing to spend hundreds for it either. That’s when I found this little lady, the Conair Oval Double-Sided Lighted Makeup Mirror, Polished Chrome Finish. First of all, the price point is fabulous, but, I can also report it’s exactly what you’re looking for. Since it is double-sided you can use it simply as a makeup mirror, but I like to use the magnifying mirror for extractions. Make sure you read this first before doing any of your own at home.
